In the course of its continuing evolution, jazz has blended with sounds from around the world – including Spain’s living tradition of Flamenco. Now in its third edition, the Flame Festival is the only festival in the U.S. dedicated to promoting this exciting musical hybrid.
9:30 p.m. Chano Dominguez Duo
Pianist Chano Dominguez has dedicated a 25–year career to the personal expression of his Flamenco origins through the medium of jazz. His music has thrilled and enchanted audiences across Europe and North America, and has brought Dominguez into the company of such noted collaborators as Wynton Marsalis, Paquito D’Rivera, and Herbie Hancock. His discography includes New Flamenco Sound (Verve, 2007), Piano Ibérico (EMI, 2010), and the GRAMMY–nominated Flamenco Sketches (Blue Note, 2011), recorded live at Jazz Standard. The award–winning bassist Alexis Cuadrado will accompany Chano Dominguez; he’s performed and/or recorded with Angélique Kidjo, Youssou N’Dour, Dianne Reeves, and Steve Wilson, just to name a few.
