Alexis Cuadrado

Silent Film Scores, Vol.1
Best Contemporary Instrumental Album
Best Immersive Audio Album

Composer and producer Alexis Cuadrado breathes new life into century-old silent films with newly composed scores that speak directly to the struggles of our time. Part of his ongoing Silent Film Scores for Social Justice project, these works revisit early cinema that confronted immigration, women's rights, poverty, inequality, and LGBTQ rights, and reveal how urgently those stories still resonate today.

Blending jazz, chamber music, and cinematic sound design, Cuadrado's music doesn't simply accompany the images; it reframes them, drawing out the humanity, resilience, and quiet defiance of their characters. The result is a dialogue across a hundred years, where the past illuminates the present.

Released on Plaza Roja Records in March 2026, Silent Film Scores, Vol. 1 stands as both an artistic reimagining and an act of witness, a reminder that the fight for justice and dignity is a story still being written.

Alexis Cuadrado is a Barcelona-born, Brooklyn-based composer, producer, bandleader, and bassist whose work spans three decades of jazz, global music, chamber music, flamenco, film scoring, and electronic improvisation. A leader of eight acclaimed albums, including A Lorca Soundscape and Poètica, he uses music as a vehicle for social justice and cultural dialogue. He runs the independent label Plaza Roja Records and The Plaza Roja studio, an Apple Digital Masters certified, Dolby Atmos facility in Brooklyn.

Soñadora (D.R.E.A.M.er)
Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals

“Soñadora (D.R.E.A.M.er)” is an oniric fable told through the voice of a migrant girl who rides her imaginary horse, her mother, toward a new life.

Alexis Cuadrado’s arrangement weaves the traditional Afro-Peruvian rhythms of Landó, Tondero, and Zamacueca into a multilayered sonic architecture of electronic, folk, jazz, and pop elements, creating an expressive, culturally rooted palette that is at once timeless and urgently contemporary.

A protest song honoring the strength and dignity of undocumented immigrants, especially children and families who risk everything in search of a better future. Written by two immigrants, it connects the migrant experience to broader struggles for justice and recognition.

Released on October 10, 2025, during Hispanic Heritage Month and on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the song reclaims a historically colonial day as a moment of solidarity, challenging dominant narratives and celebrating voices too often silenced.

With lyrics steeped in magical realism and driven by Alexis Cuadrado’s hybrid production, “Soñadora” paints a vivid portrait of survival and dreaming against all odds. At its core, it is a song of hope and resistance.

Araceli Poma is a two-time Latin Grammy-nominated Peruvian vocalist known for intertwining ancestral power with contemporary storytelling. Her voice is a cultural bridge and a call to action.

& Antonio Lizana

Carcelera
Best Global Music Performance

Alexis Cuadrado joins flamenco-jazz innovator Antonio Lizana in a hypnotic, deeply resonant collaboration that intertwines contemporary jazz, the roots of flamenco cante, and cinematic production.

Built around the stark image of prison locks echoing in the dark, the song follows someone counting the days of a sentence while confronting a deeper reality: far too many people remain unjustly imprisoned.

Lizana's intense, visceral voice carries the emotional weight of the story, while Cuadrado's evocative production wraps the music in an expansive, contemporary soundscape.

Rooted in flamenco tradition and shaped by jazz improvisation, the piece stands as both a lament and an intimate protest, elevating a personal moment of captivity into a universal reflection on justice and human dignity.

Antonio Lizana is a flamenco singer and saxophonist from Cádiz, recognized as one of the boldest innovators in contemporary flamenco. His powerful, visceral voice embraces cante jondo with a jazz sensibility that transcends borders and genres.
